“Not only does American Boiler Company install, service and maintain commercial boilers and burners, but they handle compliance reporting on behalf of their customers.”
Due to recent changes in the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s air quality regulations, many businesses and organizations which had not previously been required to report to the DEP are now required to do so. As of 2012, anyone operating a boiler of 5 million BTU or more is required to submit a compliance report annually. Prior regulations only required reporting by organizations running boilers of 10 million BTU or larger.
This leaves many businesses and organizations in the position of having to train someone on how to submit the required reports. Another option which many businesses prefer is to have the company who handles their annual service, boiler cleaning, and combustion analysis submit the report for them.
As the top commercial boiler service and maintenance provider in New Jersey, American Boiler Company stays on top of the changing needs for DEP compliance, and offers a wide range of services to their customers. Not only does American Boiler Company install, service and maintain commercial boilers and burners, they handle compliance reporting on behalf of their customers. This not only frees customers to focus on their business or organization, but can also avoid costly penalties that are assessed when property owners do not abide by DEP regulations.
ABC takes the hassle out of DEP compliance by providing an annual printed report as part of their annual service and boiler cleaning. This analysis gives a complete breakdown of emissions, including CO2, NOx. ‘Readings are taken both before and after tuning up the boiler, and the report provides a measure of the boiler’s efficiency.
New Jersey Commercial Boiler Reporting Regulations
If your organization is required to submit a compliance report to the DEP, you will need to provide, at a minimum, the following information:
- Concentrations of O2 (as a percentage of the dry basis) both before and after adjustments to combustion.
- Concentrations of CO and NOx present in the effluent stream. These are to be’ measured and reported in parts per million dry volume (ppmvd).
- The types and amounts of all fuels used in the year before the last boiler adjustment.
- Emission values measurements both before and after the combustion process in lb/MMBTU.
- Any and all corrective measures which were part of the boilers’ combustion adjustments.
These reports must be submitted online on the DEP’s website within 45 days of your annual combustion adjustment. It is of the utmost importance that the reports are filled out correctly and in the right format. Failing to do so can cause significant problems with your DEP compliance.
It’s also worth noting that if any noncompliance is discovered, you are required to report this within 24 hours of discovery.
Handling the Record Keeping and Reporting
Chances are, your company already handles the routine record keeping required by the DEP. Records of all combustion adjustments need to be logged and kept on file at all times. The DEP can request to see them at any time, and you are required to maintain records for at least five years.
These rules are not new; rather, what has changed are the reporting requirements. Companies can handle reporting in-house, but for most organizations, it makes more sense to have the service provider that handles their annual analyses and adjustments submit the reports on their behalf.
