It’s perfect light commercial applications, whether they are steam heating or hot water heating systems. Before installing your boiler, it’s important to inspect each component. You should particularly look for scarring or nicks on all of the port sealing surfaces. If there is any damage to the port seals or the area around them, have damaged parts replaced. Don’t attempt to use boiler sections with damaged in the area of the port seals. If you aren’t sure you can identify damage to the port seal areas, have professionals like American Boiler Company inspect them for you. After you’ve inspected all parts and components, here’s how to install your HB Smith 19HE Cast Iron Boiler: Use a wire brush to clean the hydronic gasket recesses and rope grooves. Be careful not to cause damage to the machine surface. If you are installing the boiler on a level pad, align the boiler so that its center is aligned to the center of the pad. If you don’t have a level pad, you will need to shim under the angles to add support and to ensure that the boiler is level. After you level the boiler, grout under the full length to add support. Install the iron rails. They should be parallel to one another. The 2 1/2′ side goes on the floor and the outsides should be spaced 25 -21/32′ apart. Place angle rails into position. They should be parallel, spaced 25-21/32′ apart (measuring from the outsides). Stand the back section up inside the angle iron rails. The feet should be attached. If needed, use supports to keep the back section from falling. Spray adhesive to the rope groove. This will help hold the wicking in place while you are assembling your boiler. Be careful not to spray adhesive into the hydronic seal ports. Install wicking without bending or twisting it. Make sure the ends clear the cleanout cover opening. Place the upper hydronic seal into the recessed section. When you do this, be careful that you don’t dislodge either the seal or the rope. Place the lower hydronic seal into the recessed section, again being careful not to dislodge the seal or rope. Visually examine the alignment of all sections. If sections are properly aligned, install draw rods and hand tighten nuts. Make sure the sections are plumb, then finish tightening the upper right and lower left draw rods (leave the upper left and lower right finger tight). While torquing the draw rods, use a torque wrench, first bringing the rods to 10 ft. lbs. of torque, then to 25 ft. lbs., and finally to 50 ft. lbs. The upper left and lower right draw rods should be left at 10 ft. lbs. of torque.
